Turning Point in Collegiate Athletics

Turning Point in Collegiate Athletics

The NCAA Convention was held January 10-14, 2024, in Phoenix, AZ.? NCAA Chief Medical Officer, Brian Hainline , gave a presentation on the topic?Collegiate Athletic Trainer Workforce Issues and Trends.?During?this presentation, he remarked on what many #athletictrainers already know. There is no shortage of ATs. There are fewer ATs who want to work in the colleges due to lack of respect, balance, and salary.?

X /Twitter has been a frenzy with responses to this statement, with nothing short of the obvious “duh.”?

We at WaveOn Health ask the following questions:

  1. Is the NCAA responsible for the current situation for ATs in the college setting??
  2. Are there different pain points for ATs in other colleges that foll under other governing boards like the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or NJCAA ??
  3. Where does respect and care about the wellbeing of ATs fall within those priorities?

The NCAA’s mission and priorities are clearly stated on their website.

I've been very vocal that it's not government, NCAA, or the National Athletic Trainers' Association responsibility to change the individual working environment for athletic trainers. It must be private enterprise that focuses on innovation to really create a new standard and delivery model. We've seen innovation in healthcare disciplines ( BetterHelp ) and revolutionary services ( Uber ), why not athletic training?

WaveOn Health is leading the way to change the landscape of athletic training, at schools within the NCAA and beyond. The so-called "shortage" is in old, antiquated models.

Connect with me directly, visit our website, or read the full article to learn about how we're changing the landscape and building the future of athletic training.

You know my thoughts on this - the first Certified Sports Technologists will probably be ATCs. We have had a rough time getting there, but thats what needs to happen. If you know anyone who wants to help, let me know PSTI | Professional Sports Technology Institute

Athletes need innovative ways to receive athletic training support. This is a great idea.
