The College sent the RCMP to my psychiatrist's office

Some days I think I am paranoid.??Fortunately, 45 psychiatrists have reassured me that I am not.?They have reassured me that there genuinely are people out to get me.(And the little voices in my head agree!)

It is common knowledge that - technically - I am just a teensy bit crazy. I am Bipolar II.??Which just makes me a bit "Patch Adams". Meaning that I am a little bit eccentric, with a sense of humor that not everyone appreciates.? ( And we all know that the College has no detectable sense of humor.)

Bipolar II Stuff

So, it was a bit of a surprise when I came out of my psychiatrist's office to find a member of the RCMP lying in wait for me.???

?How and why I have had 45 psychiatrists is a story for another day.? The short version is that every time I annoy them, the College of Physicians and Surgeons sends me to another psychiatrist.?? Apparently, I am quite annoying!!!

Police generally don't worry me.?

I actually shared a house with an RCMP member for a few years.

And used to do a lot of work for the RCMP.? Examining crazy people who had accidentally ended up in their cells.? So I generally get along very well with cops.

But having one bushwack me outside my shrink's office was not something that I ever expected. It might even be vaguely unethical.

He was a polite and gentle old soul

"We have heard that you are driving around town with guns in your vehicle" he said.

Which was weird for a number of reasons:?

?1) I rarely drive around town.? I am a weird recluse who hides out at home 99% of the time. If I am not working.

2) I don't have any guns.?

3) How the hell did he know where to find me anyway?? As far as I knew only the psychiatrist and I knew the times and dates of my appointments.?? But somehow this cop had?access to confidential info.?

If the officer had been one of those muscle-bound arrogant SWAT types I probably would have told him to go pee up a rope. But he was an old gentle soul, who was extremely polite. And a bit embarrassed by the whole affair. And he genuinely seemed worried that I might be a delusional psychotic gun-nut on the way to a mass murder event.

So I made him a deal.

"If you tell me how you knew where to find me, I will let you search my vehicle."

He wasn't too thrilled with that deal, but he eventually fessed up.? "Dr. Maureen Piercey, from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, is the one who said we could find you here and that we should check you out."

Dr. Maureen Piercey sent the cops to harass me

Dr. Piercey and I are well acquainted with each other. I don't like her.

And I am guessing she doesn't like me,? Since she sends cops after me for no reason.??. nd there is an argument to be made that her conduct was unethical. There is supposed to be some degree of privacy between doctors and their patients. Or even doctors and their doctor-patients. Which would seem to rule out psych office ambushes.

?I let the elderly cop search my vehicle.?But remember when I said I was Bipolar II? Although I can act normal for endless minutes when I really concentrate, Bipolar does have an effect. I am overwhelmingly not neat and tidy. I could have had a live porpoise in my vehicle, and it would take the RCMP a week to find it.

I tend to have a fairly cluttered vehicle

Then tragedy struck - he wanted to search my house too. Which is a definite contravention of my civil rights. Plus I hadn't vacuumed for - probably a decade or more. I told the cop to head back to the station and leave me unmolested.

?This was unethical behaviour on the part of Dr. Maureen Piercey. The appropriate thing to do would be to complain. In my case, to my regulatory agency - the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. But there was a fatal flaw. - the person I would be complaining to would be Dr. Maureen Piercey. She was the one in charge of that type of inappropriate behavior.

?Which would leave her in the position of investigating herself. (And this is not the only time - stay tuned for future posts. )

?Moral : The College of Physicians and Surgeons is not all that it could be! ( I worry about the future of medicine.
