Collapsed Critical

Collapsed Critical

Collapsed Critical An Alternative to TIA

?1??????The fundamental difference.

1.1???????Use every critical event.

1.1.1??In the standard TIA analysis the events that may affect the critical path are impacted on the relevant task in strict chronological order.

1.1.2??Impacting of the first causal Event will change the critical path, thus eliminating several potential delay events.

1.1.3??In this case we impact every event that will affect the critical path so that every delay effect will be apparent in your report.

2??????How I do it.

2.1???????Event Schedule.

2.1.1??I would have created an Excel spreadsheet that lists all the details that comprise the causal events.

2.1.2??Within this schedule I will have established the date when the event will impact on a specific task in the programme.

2.1.3??In another column I will have compared the impact date with the programme date, having set that date to ALAP.

2.1.4??I use a simple IF( formula that asks if the impact date is greater than the on impact dates programme date, which if TRUE returns the word “YES” and if FALSE gives me “NO”.

2.1.5??I can then do a reverse filter on the whole spreadsheet that I have all the “YES” events at the top of my spreadsheet, I can do a sub sort on impact dates so that they arrive in chronological order.

2.1.6??I then copy/paste the results of the spreadsheet into a sub chart in my ASTA PowerProject software.

2.2???????PowerProject.

2.2.1??I then link every causal event to every relevant task and reschedule.

2.2.2??I use the software facility that enables me to add a different category to every link.

2.2.3??Software will reveal the critical path and I can trace this back to the relevant event by filtering on the critical path.

2.2.4??Make a note of the causal event and the delayed task and the delayed completion date.

2.2.5??I then tick off the critical link that is causing the delay and reschedule.

2.2.6??There will now be new critical path to present itself.

2.2.7??I now repeat 2.2.4 and .5 until every critical event has been used and I am back to the original baseline programme.

2.3???????Summary.

2.3.1??Now use the notes that I have taken regarding the cause and effect of every critical event.

2.3.2??I can now place these in reverse chronological order to formulate my report.

2.3.3??The Cause and Effect of every relevant event has now been taken into account, not just a few that would be allowed under the standard TIA process.

Excellent . I think you mix Time Slice Windows Analysis with Retrospective TIA, is it true? means combination of observational method and forensic modeled method. but, it is similar to TIA Forensic

Whether you collapse or rebuild, CPM based delay analysis hardly satisfy TCC judges or ICC arbitrators because of serious flaws in CPM network.
