Collapse, Contagion, Complexity, and Singularity

Collapse, Contagion, Complexity, and Singularity

This is not a post about children, art galleries, or the wonder of fantastical things.

Following a previous post on the future of Toasters I promised to explain why I was framing this against what I feel are four existential challenges; Ecological Collapse, Global Conflict, Bio-Socioeconomic Complexity, and Technological Singularity.

This is an article of perspective, on a very challenging bigger picture, and our place in it.

I.e. What lens should be used to view the scope of problems that we are all facing? Are we past the point where 'think global and act local' no longer serves our collective best interests? In seeking to be sustainable, which is not enough to reconcile our deficits, are we falling into a false sense of security, doing good by doing less? I feel that greater measures are needed, and this begins with a serious look at the bigger picture.
