Collaboration, Story Mediation and Craft
Story Mediation is my craft. Being a Story Mediator gives me purpose, as it allows me to learn from others and witness the power of Story.
When we talk about purpose, I think of the stories we tell as a constant CRAFT - it involves an intention to sense and create something sustainable, for the benefit of oneself and others, respecting the environment we live in.
In our work, Collaborative Storytelling also means collaborative story “crafting,” because we know how people can speak up and co-create meaning together: in their families, their communities, their organizations and the environment they live in.
More than a type of work or a metaphor, CRAFT is a mindset for experiencing our social dynamics, how we manage our work, our physical space and most importantly, our own story.
We all can encounter stories that inspire us to act, but when it comes to the individual, I trust that only you can sense what is right for your story.?
When we reflect about the question: "What is your story?", what we are really asking is: What is the significance that we give to the things that we have done and how does that significance influence what we want to do? The implicit and explicit answers to those questions tell what we are made of and the difference we want to make in the world.
In a way, work with purpose comes from finding the right “craft” for your story."
Story Mediation is not an exclusive "craft" and it can be incorporated by decision makers in many communities of practice where there is a genuine interest in enabling and giving voice to silent stories.
