Collaboration and Communication Remain Key to Another Successful EduKerjaya
Project ID
Empowering students to achieve their career aspirations by learning how to lead self and lead others.
Organising a programme for students at this scale as a team of three can be very challenging especially when it was executed on a short period of time. Here are few learnings from the team:
1. Leveraging on the team’s strengths
It was important to ensure the team was utilised better in order to get things done So, Ivanka (our senior programme lead) made sure that both Emelia and Shawn were playing into their strengths.
For example, Emelia has prior experience in student coordination hence it was very helpful to have her help out as she didn’t need much guidance coordinating the students.
"She puts her heart into student coordination and was able to handle it well. She also built connections with the students, and her sincerity was much appreciated by the students" - Ivanka
2. Practicing overcommunication
One of Emelia's main learning was that overcommunication is essential to good teamwork. There were limited time and no room for mistakes, so the team needed practice daily check-ins to fill in each other with continuous updates.

We needed to constantly communicate with one another, there were instances of minor mistakes happening, and I realised we needed to spend more time rectifying the issues, so communicating it earlier would've helped so much.
We wouldn't have been able to achieve what we were able to do if it wasn't for the constant touchpoints and discussions we had together.
3. Working Better Together
Not only the team but members of Project ID reached out with assistance whenever necessary, and the important lesson here was how we were all able to come together and help each other.
We were also grateful to have external guidance through programme role models, supervisors, and employers attending our physical events, making the experience more meaningful for our students.
“Seeing them make time and attend our closing lunch was great! Very happy to see that people see the value of this project, and it shows that people notice our hard work“- Ivanka
Lastly, as a new member of the team and running EduKerjaya for the first time, Shawn expressed that having the chance to witness the impact the programme had on students only reaffirms the team and our stakeholders that these kinds of projects do actually benefit the students and "I am glad it turned out the way it did".
