col·lab·o·rate: work together, team up

Everyone knows the word, collaborate. And we all talk about teaming up. Then we go about our business. Same way, next day. The thought of working together sounds good, and some can tolerate it long enough to serve at the local food pantry on Thanksgiving. Then in a sense, it seems we've done our good deed for the year, month, whatever. Yeah, I did that teaming thing, now back to the daily grind. I'll be back, but right now I need to take care of my business. You take care of yours. You do your job, I'll do mine. Sound familiar?
So why can't we collaborate consistently? Imagine for a moment that working closely with others may truly benefit you, your company and the people you serve. Would you consider it? Would you team up with other people or with other companies, if what followed would bring amazing results for everyone involved? If you could lower your cost of doing business, find common efficiencies, improve service, reach more people and enjoy higher earnings through collaboration - would you step forward and say, "I'm in"?
As you take your summer vacation, get the kids back to school in August, and then head into the holidays and wrap up 2019 - why not start planning your collaboration strategy now for 2020? Think carefully about how you work with others currently, who you already work with that you trust and respect, and what common interests you share. Then start talking collaboration. You don't have to form a partnership, sell, merge or become an affiliate to work more closely together. Simply start a dialogue with those in your industry, share goals, find ways to help each other and envision methods to better serve mutual customers. Schedule conference calls with a select team, set priorities, agree on methods, responsibilities, and accountability (measure results) and get started.
That struggling business of yours, with shrinking margins and diminishing customer base might just rebound in 2020. Focus on the word that may brighten your future - collaborate!
