Coldplay are putting the environment first
At the end of October, I attended a Climate Change conference and experienced EnviroFest International's work. They show documentary films to engage people on the specific issues faced by their communities. The entertainment industry can be a powerful influence for positive change.
I like Coldplay's music and I'm impressed with their aims to make their concerts more sustainable. Coldplay announced that they wouldn't tour again until they could make it more sustainable. They are guided by three key principles.?
Coldplay’s 2022 world tour has been powered almost entirely by renewable energy, using a rechargeable battery the band developed with BMW. It’s a?rechargeable battery that is powered by recycled cooking oil, solar power, and the kinetic energy of their audiences.?
These batteries are powered using electricity-producing dancefloors - kinetic flooring converts the audience’s feet movements into energy and people pedal the electricity-generating bikes.?
Solar panels are installed on venues ahead of each show and the tour bus is powered with biofuel where possible. To help cut energy usage for lighting and special effects, the show upgraded to more efficient equipment, including low-energy LED screens, laser, and lighting systems and a PA system with 50% less power consumption.?
Coldplay is also working with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every ticket sold?https://onetreeplanted.org/pages/coldplay?
They estimate 14 million trees will be planted by the end of their tour.
We need to see more actions like these to help us have a more sustainable future for everyone.
