Cold truths...

Cold truths...

As autumn closes in I am starting to anticipate the extreme cold that our Head South team will be experiencing in just under 4 months time, as we trek across Antarctica for 10 to 12 hours a day in whiteout conditions, 24-hour daylight, minus 40 degrees and crosswinds of up to 70km/h.

As some of you know I champion a range of charities through undertaking personal challenges, using them as a forum to encourage people to support these vital causes.

I have run 40 marathons in 40 days and even slept out on the street with business colleagues to raise awareness and funds for the homeless.

But this expedition to the South Pole has to be my hardest challenge yet.

An endeavour that carries with it a serious health warning. We are attempting a potentially very dangerous, physically challenging and life-threatening feat as me and my seven colleagues, including former England Rugby World Cup winner Lewis Moody, will trek unaided over 100kms to the South Pole, dragging our tents and provisions all the way.

The cold truths surrounding the devastating impact of brain tumours in the UK today put things firmly in perspective. Nothing makes you shiver more than these stark facts:

Brain tumours continue to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.

Every 2 hours, someone is diagnosed with a brain tumour in England.

This killer can strike anyone, at any time.

Minus 40 degrees feels positively balmy in comparison to this very real threat to life and something has to be done. We all have a responsibility to do what we can to help others.

And while I am still blessed with health, I choose to put it to good use by heading south in support of The Lewis Moody Foundation to fund ground-breaking research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours.

That is my small price to pay. What is yours?

Even just a small donation will help to make a huge difference.

Or get your business involved. Invest in a corporate sponsorship package: imagine our sledges emblazoned with your company branding - product placement at the heart of the Antarctic - a priceless reward for your generous support!

Let’s also get one thing clear. When you give money, you are NOT CROWDFUNDING our trip. My colleagues and I are paying for this trip ourselves!

ALL DONATED FUNDS GO TO THE CHARITY AND ONLY THE CHARITY.

Your funds will give us the fuel and fire we need to get on our way because your support is enabling the medical experts to get on with finding a cure for brain tumours.

Superb Michael, and very best of luck. Brain tumors are horrific, as you so rightly say.

Trained from being a couch potato to running a 10K in central London on the hottest day of the year a while back - all in aid of Brain Tumour research - what got me through was thinking of my friends daughter (same age as mine) who had passed away and would give anything to be able to run a step - it’s such a worthy cause. I could not take on such a challenge Mike but I wish you the very best of luck
