Colón’s Corner: Back for More
The lead up to my podcast re-debut
Truth be told, there were some nerves involved. It had been six months since I’d done an interview of any sort and while self-doubt was not necessarily creeping in, feelings of angst. You do something for so long, work at it so passionately and then boom you aren’t doing it anymore. From December to this past Tuesday, that was the case. Rhythm, feel, and substance for content creation takes a long time to hone and a short time to lose.
The main question on my mind entering Tuesday’s?interview with retired FDNY Deputy Chief Jay Jonas, whose incredible survival of the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, came to be known as the ‘Miracle of Stairway B’ was had I lost it? Coming out of the gate there’s more to juggle now. I have sponsors for starters and I’m monetizing now which is a plus. It felt great to see the live chat, that certainly felt familiar. And of course, there was the outline of talking points to my right that would guide me throughout the interview.

Didn’t feel real mainly because I was so out of rhythm. Granted, the interview went very well, and I beat myself up over minor mistakes too much at times in my interviews which is something I need to get better at not doing. Still, it was a long road back. The time flew by, especially once I started working. This newsletter is a lot of fun to write, and I’ll continue to write it, but the podcast is where it’s at for me. It’s like the awesome ex-girlfriend you foolishly broke up with, but you get back together and this time you make things right and marry her. And she’s hot too.
So yes, I’m back. My rhythm will come back to me, most of it’s muscle memory by this point anyway. Things will feel consistent, and I’ll scratch new surfaces in addition to continuing to scratch the ones I already have. I’m in the game again, I’m back for more.
