Biospark – Hack the Future of Biotech

In December, we proudly hosted our inaugural hackathon, Biospark - Hack the Future of Biotech, in partnership with BSV Ventures . This dynamic event took place from December 2-4 at Vilnius University’s new Medical Science Center. It attracted talented students, scientists, and industry leaders, all dedicated to finding innovative solutions to pressing challenges in the life sciences.

The hackathon featured real-world problems presented by various teams, including a notable challenge from the National Cancer Institute. Participants immersed themselves in biotechnology, medical device development, and process optimization, generating experimental solutions over three intensive days. The event was enriched by expert speakers and mentors who provided invaluable insights on strategy development and market analysis.

At the conclusion of the event, the Senso Life team received accolades for their outstanding project, earning the chance to participate in BSV Ventures startup incubation program with potential funding of up to €15,000. Additionally, special recognition from the National Cancer Institute went to another remarkable team. Biospark proved to be a vital platform for networking and fostering life sciences innovation, demonstrating the crucial role of collaboration between academia and industry in addressing global challenges.

Lecture Series: Get Ready for Your Science Show

On December 7 and 12, we conducted a two-day lecture series titled "Get Ready for Your Science Show". Designed to help students and researchers perfect their presentation skills, this initiative focused on crafting compelling posters and oral presentations.

The first lecture of the event was led by Dr. Vilius Malūnavi?ius, who discussed how to prepare an engaging and attention-grabbing poster presentation. Following that, Dr. Kotryna ?ekuolyt? conducted a workshop focused on the preparation of poster presentations.

In the second part of the event, Dr. Vilmantas Pupkis and Dr. Ma?ena Mackoit Sinkevi?ien? led sessions, sharing their expertise on overcoming public speaking anxiety and effectively showcasing scientific research. Participants left with essential tools and techniques to communicate their findings with confidence and clarity.

Participants left the series empowered with the knowledge and skills necessary to shine at the upcoming The COINS 2025 conference, where they will showcase their research with newfound confidence.

Announcing Our Keynote Speakers for The COINS 2025

We are ecstatic to introduce two distinguished keynote speakers for the upcoming COINS 2025 Life Science Conference:

• Kelly Krause, Creative Director at Nature, will discuss Visual Communication in Science Publishing. With her extensive background in creating engaging scientific visuals, Kelly will provide attendees with insights on enhancing their publications through effective visual strategies. Her session promises to be enlightening, offering practical tips for impactful scientific communication.

• Prof. Victor R. Ambros, a Nobel Prize laureate in Physiology or Medicine, will present on Gene Regulatory Networks Controlling Developmental Timing in C. elegans. Prof. Ambros groundbreaking research in microRNA has transformed our understanding of gene regulation, making his insights invaluable for both researchers and practitioners in the field.

Photography Contest for High School Students

We invite high school students to participate in The COINS 2025 Photography Contest! This exciting contest encourages students to explore biodiversity through their photography skills.

Contest Details:

• Objective: Encourage exploration of biodiversity and foster creativity.
• How to Enter: Submit original photos of nature, along with a brief description (up to 100 words), to [email protected] by January 27.
• Awards: Four winners will be chosen—three by renowned nature photographer Marius ?epulis and one via public voting on Facebook. Winning entries will be announced in February and awarded prizes.
