Coinbase revealed a new integration with Apple Pay on Monday, enabling app developers to incorporate crypto purchasing capabilities directly into their apps through Apple Pay.

This integration is part of Coinbase Onramp, a solution designed to streamline the process of converting traditional currencies, like USD, into cryptocurrencies. Historically, this process has been cumbersome, involving additional fees and the need to navigate multiple platforms.

By integrating Apple Pay, Coinbase continues its efforts to make crypto more accessible to everyday consumers, simplifying the purchasing process and broadening its appeal.

苹果 ’s move to embrace this integration could signify a shift in its approach to the crypto industry, which has previously been fraught with challenges. This development might indicate a softening stance from the tech giant.

The timing of this potential shift is notable. President-elect Trump has suggested his administration might adopt a more favorable stance toward the crypto industry compared to prior leadership. Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler has also announced plans to step down, signaling the end of his tenure marked by heightened scrutiny of the crypto space.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has previously voiced criticism of Apple’s approach to the crypto industry. In 2022, Armstrong pointed to potential antitrust issues, alleging that Apple had restricted certain features in Coinbase’s app.

In 2019, Apple introduced its credit card but barred its use for cryptocurrency purchases. The company also has a history of removing crypto-related apps, including major exchanges like Binance and Kraken, from its App Store in some regions, such as India.

However, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed interest in crypto during a 2021 interview, revealing that he personally owns cryptocurrency. Despite this, Cook stated that Apple would maintain a cautious approach, keeping a measured distance from the crypto sector.
