The Coin- An Unexpected Hero
Greetings my Mortal Human Friends and Welcome to a cold hard Journey of Life (Cold & Hard is supposed to make it sound a little difficult like your Final Exams) where I go through different phases, some memorable, some frightening. Hope you try to fit in my Boots and experience it with a large open imaginative mind and may be a little care for my emotions (Well Not really, since I am just a piece of metal)
It all started in a big hollow place full of rusted metals and dark brown iron petals, a Place called the mint. I was born in a mint (Sucks right?). So Along with my brothers and sisters, I was thrown around carelessly all over the place until the time we were packed in large bags and thrown onto a train which looked like a dinosaur to all of us except that it just did not have large teeth and a mouth to swallow us all like pieces of Fried Chicken. I realized in my first hour of life that I was very unlucky. I was lying at the bottom of the sack in the train like I had no value and self respect at all, I fell asleep in there in a while and then realized that I have a 1000 more like me in the same bag were we all were pressed against each just like the people in the local trains of Mumbai. When I woke up, I was thankful that I was on top and not at the bottom like a squished tomato. After looking around for a while I found I had reached the bank…..Another Big place called the RBI(Reserve bank of India) and this was not like any other bank, It was like the Hogwarts of banks, It was like The Castle of the Queen of England. It was the place which was supposed to my School and I loved it. I never really got to bunk any classes to be honest and used to sit there lying motionless all the time wondering when the teachers would show up. They never did so I just faded away into deep slumber.
When I woke up the next morning, I was confused and tired. I heard a loud pitter patter and I felt so amazed to think that I actually witnessed rain. It was very rare in a coin’s life as we don’t see much around. Suddenly the damp place in which I was kept opened up and then Mr Shovel returned and groped amongst us. All of us moved away from it but my sister was caught. I told you I was unlucky. But my ill fate, she pulled me along. She was quite sluggish. I could no longer hang on to her. Our hands parted like the end of a Bollywood Movie based on a Sad love story where the guy and the girl are going away from each other and will never see each other again thus cry like 2 year old kids when they are not given their lollipop. I know its stupid.
It all happened in an instant like a flash of lightning. I was left there all alone on the side of the road away from my Brothers and sisters..….after a while a kid with small little feet came towards me and saw me lying there, picked me up and looked at me with his big innocent eyes that had a little shine in them and smiled at me, he then polished me with his little t-shirt which made me feel like I just took a body massage at an expensive spa club which made my skin shine brighter like Emma Stone. After that he started running towards a little candy store nearby and looked at the different candies placed there, then gave me to the shop keeper thus instead got a piece of a Chocolate candy from him and the Amount of Happiness in this eyes, the satisfaction I saw on the kid’s face just made me feel like an Angel, I was an important thing to the kid, at least someone on this earth because I gave birth to the smile on his face which just lit my World up, I now knew I had some value and some Respect in this harsh cruel world……The Kid then hurried back away from the shop and I saw him vanish in the distance.
After a few minutes, The shop keeper shoved me into his pocket where I again saw a few of my brothers. There was one elder to me called 5 rupee coin and 1 younger called the 1 rupee coin and then I realized that I was a 2 rupee coin(I was very cheap). After that he started walking away from the shop to a distant place where I saw many people standing near an exhilarating fountain and I saw that my brothers and sisters were being tossed into it for some reason, I realized that I was going to be next for sure by the time the shop keeper soon took me out of his pocket and held me in his closed palms and prayed for a minute with his eyes closed and then in the blink of an eye he threw me inside the fountain like a bowler throws a ball at the batsman in a cricket match. As soon as I hit the water surface, Cold Chills ran down my spine and I felt like I would be frozen to death, It was very cold and the water was so crystal clear that I could see everyone else lying at the bottom of it crying heartlessly for being abandoned and thrown into the water like little stones. Then I realized that this was The Fountain of Wishes and that people tried their luck by throwing in coins such as me. I smiled to myself and wished good luck to the man who threw me there. Now even after 100 years I still lay there at the bottom of the fountain under the cold clear waters again reunited with my brothers and sisters in a Hope that I would make a wish come true and would be again picked by someone in time to be Re-used and Re-Lived again.
That was it, That is pretty much how my Life ended. Isn’t is amazing how different people treat you in a Different way just based on their basic needs and your role in their life. A Kid saw me a as a way to buy some chocolate, a old man thought I could make a wish come true and maybe I would be the entire world to a Poor Homeless guy who couldn’t even afford a small piece of bread and I would be a very valuable asset to him unlike the other people I met. Life is harsh and cruel. Either you are born a King or you have to work hard enough to be one. In My case, I was just a coin and I was neither of them.
Well I hope you had fun experiencing this journey of my life and learnt a thing or two (May be more or none) and next time when you find me lying around in your pocket, Don’t just look at me like a Coin, But look at me as something that could make a Difference to someone who never even had the luxury to spend a simple 2 Rupee Coin like me.
