The Cognitive Triangle: The Love Triangle Your Mind Didn't Know It Had

Ever find yourself caught in a love triangle? No, I'm not talking about your questionable choices on the latest dating app. I'm referring to the complex relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Yep, it's complicated.

The Thoughtful Corner ??

We all have around 6,000 thoughts a day. That's 6,000 chances to either pump yourself up or tear yourself down. Your thoughts set the stage for your feelings and actions. But sometimes, they’re not the most reliable narrators.

All the Feels ??

Your feelings are like the weather: constantly changing and affecting your plans. It’s important to remember they are not facts, but they can still steer your actions like a hormonal teenager with a new driver’s license.

Actions Speak Louder ??

Then there are actions. They’re the external manifestations of the internal drama. Ever done something and immediately thought, "Why did I do that?" Blame it on this complex cognitive love triangle.

Breaking the Triangle: Finding Balance ??

  • Thoughts: Catch and challenge negative self-talk. Ask yourself if what you're thinking is a fact or a feeling.
  • Feelings: Pause and identify your emotions. Sit with them for a bit and consider their source.
  • Actions: Before acting, connect the dots. Will this action serve your feelings or thoughts, or is it a knee-jerk reaction?

The triangle concept is so relatable??. Makes me reconsider a lot of my 'why did I do that' moments.

I love the idea of 'catch and challenge.' I'm definitely my own worst critic at times. ??
