Cognitive Flexibility

Cognitive Flexibility

It was an up, out and off to work a little earlier this morning, and only because there were a number of tasks needing to be completed before I had to run out to a home and unlock it for an early showing. Unfortunately the viewing didn't go as well as I was expecting, so it's back to the drawing board once again.

Upon return to office, I busied myself with getting all the new documents we're supposed to be using, fully compartmentalized in my trusty rolling file carrier, just so I don't have to go running to make copies from any of those masters whenever I'm in need of one. Yes, it's definitely a brave new world in real estate, and just today I had to back-track and email a lender, copies of the extra forms I had my buyers sign when I first started working with them. It does seem everyone in our industry has been put on notice.

I did make a quick call to a customer who didn't pick up, so I left a detailed message on his answering machine regarding a recent 2nd showing they'd had with me, and glad he was good enough to text me back saying he'd be in contact with me before the end of this week. For the strangest of reasons, I continue to 'see' in my mind's eye, that delightful couple living in that home, along with enjoying all the extra bennies it offers, so we'll see what he has to say when he does call.

With a little free time, I went online to get an update on the continued appointments 'D.T.' is making, and when seeing he appointed Matt Gaetz as our country's Attorney General, I just about fell off my chair because that guy has definitely got some skeletons in his closet, along with a potty mouth that's definitely inappropriate for such a position.

As much as I've been looking for it, I still can't find the name and photo of the person when young, played the role of Pugsley Addams on The 'Addams Family' which I think ran back in the late 60's and early 70's. If I ever find a photo of that youngster who played Pugsley's part, I'll have to share it, and only because at the time, he'd be bearing a strong resemblance of Matt Gaetz, which is why every time I see a photo of Gaetz, I'm reminded of that naughty monkey Pugsley.

I also read an article about Steve Jobs who was the founder of Apple, which talked about how different he was when it came to running a major company. From what was said in that article, he was definitely a rare breed who'd quickly change his opinion on something if he'd come to the conclusion he was wrong. Oh yes, in today's world, there are very few people who'd admit wrong without tacking blame on someone or something. I can fully understand how difficult it is to admit fault or a failure to live up to misconceived notions, because I see it almost all the time where it turns into a blame game, or they simply refuse to admit any sort of failure.

There's one particular 'nameless' person in our city who most consider the best of the best, but I've seen the darker side of that individual, and after the first time there was a side-ways sort of admitting a failure, but then going on and making it sound like it was the pressures of the job and then blaming others for it. Well, in my book, if I agree to do something that's time sensitive, I make darned sure it gets completed, even if I have to make the time by going to work earlier or working over the weekend. No, I'd don't have a great respect for people who haven't yet learned to say “NO”, and let someone else handle the job. It's sort of like that crazy old line that goes, “Continue beating me just so I hurt more because it feels so good.”

Coming full-circle now, I must say I respect the name Steve Jobs even more, and only because he put to use his gift of cognitive flexibility. I dare say you'd have to do some serious looking to find another here in North Iowa who's blessed with, and puts to use such an ability. For sure, many in the 'MAGA' group haven't a clue what it is, and only because they're they type who'll likely never ever admit any sort of failures or admit they're wrong. Pretty scary isn't it?

Tonight's One-liner is: It's never too late to be what you might have been.
