Vibes a little off? If you can’t get going without your morning cup of coffee, we can sympathise – neither can we. Turns out there’s actually a scientific reason why the world is a brighter place after coffee, though.

·??????A study at the Ruhr University Bochum in Germany found that drinking two to three cups of coffee left participants much more responsive to positive words and expressions than negative ones. As caffeine boosts your levels of dopamine, the so-called ‘happy hormone’ it can literally lift your mood and make you more likely to see the positive side of things.

·??????A recent survey carried out across Europe by Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (yup, that’s a real thing!),?asked participants about the effect of diet and lifestyle choices on mood. The study found that drinking small, regular amounts of coffee (say a cup every four hours) can help to improve your mood over the day. In fact, even the smell of coffee can lift your spirits – that’s how good it is!

·??????In addition to making you feel better, caffeine can help you actually be better according to various reports. Drinking around five cups a day can help protect you against ?Type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease as well as various liver conditions including cirrhosis, liver cancer and chronic liver disease.
