The Coffee Shop BusinesS
Welcome one and all....Welcome to the coffee shop business news letter.
Over the coming weeks I am going to share with you the key business strategies needed to grow your business to the level that allows you to be able to live the life you want with the income you desire all while working from your laptop in your favourite coffee shop, because, that’s what we all became self employed for wasn’t it?
Over the last 20 years I have worked for a number of organisations in a multitude of different sectors, some big and some small. I have been managed and managed individuals and teams, I have been self employed and employed, I have been a sole trader and director of my own limited company. I have managed a business through the worldwide pandemic and supported a number of self employed people during this extremely difficult time.
And I have failed.
Yes, I have failed, so I am here to share what I have learnt along the way in a hope that I can help you to grow and become the successful business owner that you dream of.
So, lets get into it…..
Firstly I want to ask you a question.
What is the goal of your business? Now I know you will be sat there thinking “this moron is going to ramble on about goal setting for growth!” but please bare with me.
I also know you will think quickly and say you “want to help people” or that “you want to revolutionise the industry with your new innovative product”?and I know there are a thousand other responses which I am sure you are all 100% committed to and believe are the goal of your business. But, sadly I am here to tell you that you are barking up the wrong tree, and here is why….
The goal of any organisation is to increase throughput.

I will say that again.
THE GOAL OF ANY ORGANISATION IS TO INCREASE THROUGHPUT.
To put this in simpler terms, the goal of any organisation is to make money, yes? And the only way to make more money is to increase throughput. Simple.
Now, for every organisation the term “throughput” will vary, it may be a product or a service, however the end outcome is the same. More throughput = more money.
?So, by default anything you are doing inside of your business that directs you away from increasing throughput is directly impacting your ability to make more money and therefore having a negative impact.
Now have a think about your daily actions within your business, start thinking about the things you do that you think are important and see if they have a direct impact on the throughput of the business and more importantly if that impact is negative or positive? Is that Instagram post really needed or is there another task that you don’t really want to do but is more likely to put another client on the books or sell another product?
Food for thought.
Have a great day and feel free to reach out for a coffee and chat.
Speak soon,
Adam?
