Coffee Island Brought the Best of Brazil to the Heart of London

Coffee Island hosted a cupping session last week for the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA). Internationally recognised as the vanguard of specialty coffee production in Brazil, BSCA is known for its continuous action in the promotion of Brazilian producers.

Coffee Island was the first stop on a European tour, including Budapest, for Europe’s Greatest Coffee Event. Attendees included representatives from Capricornio Coffees, Carmocoffees, Fazenda Barinas, Camocim, Fazenda S?o Louren?o, Grupo Veloso and Luiz Estate Coffee.

During the session, BSCA proved why Brazil is not only the world’s largest coffee producer but also the most sophisticated.

In showcasing the science behind cupping, representatives revealed how coffee beans are affected by a variety of factors, such as the genus of the coffee tree, the country and region of origin, soil characteristics and its slope, temperature, humidity, sunshine and the way the coffee fruit is collected and processed.

They then went through the strict procedure of cupping step by step, from sniffing the ground beans and slurping each sample to judging each varietal on aroma, taste, acidity, sweetness, body and aftertaste.

Many thanks to BSCA for demonstrating how cupping is not only one of the most important stages of coffee production but also the most entertaining. To learn even more details about the cupping, please read BSCA Cupping Session.

We look forward to welcoming similar organisations and associations to showcase their products in the cosy environment of our shop in Leicester Square.
