Coffee: How Often

Coffee: How Often

It is very rare when I drink two cups of coffee in one day.

However, I often have a cappuccino late morning or perhaps in the evening. Plus, I do not count the “BOGO Wednesday” frozen Vanilla Bean Latte that I get at least once a week.

Sad fact, I had gone years without a good frozen frappe until BIGGBY Coffee moved into New Philadelphia, Ohio. I hear you… How is that even possible?

Cost Cutting

Yeah, Starbucks decided that “more money at all costs” is better than great customer service.

How so? They stopped “brewing” and chilling the “mix” required to make a frappe. Instead, they now use hot coffee and pour it into the blender with the ice cubes. The unintended consequence? A slushie. Not a very good one at that.

Okay you say, “Please add some more ice.”

Wrong. That creates a diluted frappe that also is not worth drinking IMNSHO.

BizLesson In a Cup

How much “extra” money did Starbucks make off me by changing the process? None.

How much did they lose? Well, I used to go at least twice a day. In the morning it would be a dark roast “Tall” (what the rest of the world calls a small) coffee and after lunch a Frappe. It used to be about $3.00 to $3.45 times 30 which equals about a hundred bucks a month.

But it gets worse

Yes, remember that cost-cutting? So they stop brewing great coffee like Verona and introduce Pike’s Place. Or what I call “Heartburn On a Budget!”

So, now I am saving $2.00 a day on coffee, which is another $60 bucks in lost sales.

This is like the time my wife went shopping for a new pair of jeans… she saved $15 off the regular price and so she added a new pair of shoes for $59 bringing my savings to a NEGATIVE Forty-Four Bucks! #ouch

So, what stupid decisions are you making without “thinking out loud” aka bouncing it off at least one other person?

P.S. This is a Public Service Announcement aka a FREE Shoutout for BIGGBY.

P.P.S. Need a Speaker for that next important event?
