What if you went to see your doctor, not because you had a problem, but because you were healthy and wanted to keep it that way?
Modern medicine is focused on problem solving. But what if we could preempt the problems from occurring in the first place?
This isn't preventive medicine.
There are some things we simply cannot prevent.
But we can figure out what your risk factors are for developing problems later in life and try to take action now to lessen the impact on your life later.
That's what I call preactionary medicine.
Let's get started!

Drinking More Coffee is Good for Your Health
It is estimated that over 2 billion cups of coffee are consumed each and every day. And there may be more reasons for it than the taste or the kick you get from the caffeine.
A large study involving over 521,000 participants across 10 European countries examined the relationship between coffee consumption and mortality.
The findings suggest that higher coffee consumption is linked to a lower risk of all-cause mortality, especially from digestive and circulatory diseases. A positive link between coffee consumption and ovarian cancer mortality in women was also observed.
Consuming three or more cups of coffee per day was linked to a lower risk of death from any cause. Specifically, men experienced a 12% reduced risk, and women a 7% reduction. These findings even persisted after accounting for variables such as age, smoking habits, and dietary patterns.
So ... drink more coffee?

More Coffee = More Rapid Cognitive Decline
A study presented at the 2024 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference found that drinking more than three cups of coffee daily is linked to faster cognitive decline over time.
The research, involving over 8,000 adults from the UK Biobank, revealed that high coffee consumption led to the steepest decline in cognitive function, while moderate consumption showed some protective effects.
Tea drinkers, however, exhibited a different pattern, with moderate to high tea consumption potentially slowing cognitive decline.

Coffee Confusion
A review of current research explored the effects of caffeine on cardiovascular diseases, revealing mixed results.
While caffeine shows potential benefits for cardiovascular health, studies have shown conflicting outcomes, particularly regarding its impact on blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders, and cholesterol levels.
The review highlights the need for more rigorous, well-controlled studies to clarify caffeine's cardiovascular effects and safety.
Despite its widespread consumption, the role of caffeine in managing cardiovascular diseases remains inconclusive, with further research necessary to draw definitive conclusions.
However, there is one thing you can do to make your coffee consumption healthier starting today!
A study of over 500,000 Norwegians found that coffee brewing methods impact mortality!
Filtered coffee was linked to a lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality compared to no coffee, while unfiltered coffee was associated with higher mortality rates.
Specifically, filtered coffee was found to reduce the risk of death from cardiovascular disease, particularly in women.
I'm not about to give up on my usual dose of 1-2 cups of coffee every day (it used to be more like 6-8 cups per day). But I do make it a point to filter my coffee through paper filters nowadays.
