Coffee, Comedy & Violence!

The poster for this comedy battle show in Delhi on 13th April may lead you to believe that this will be a ridiculously fun night of entertainment. That, it no doubt will be. However what the poster does not reveal is the wonderful mutually beneficial collaboration that this initiative not just is, but has built the foundation for.

I’ll tell you about why this show is a unique night of entertainment a little later in the post, but let me first tell you why everyone wins in this collaboration. Also make sure you?read to the end to find out about what YOU get to enjoy - raucous comedy, delicious coffee, a wonderful book browsing experience and the option to attend a Comedy Masterclass straight after the show!

Kunzum:

Kunzum in GK2 Delhi has the most beautiful performance space, which currently does not have as much programming as it deserves. Also, people come to the bookshop only to buy books and read. However henceforth along with Laughter Nation we are aiming to programme multiple nights of comedy per month. Also, going forward Beanly will be selling their delicious coffee at the venue.?

Kunzum thus benefits from the massive increase in footfall that their venue will receive. Not just will hundreds of people come to watch stand-up, but tons of people now have the option to come in and buy a cup of Beanly’s fantastic brew. Kunzum thus enjoys a better utilisation of their space, further strengthens their brand as a space for culture, and gets a percentage of these visitors converting to customers for their books.

Beanly Coffee:

You probably haven’t heard of Beanly Coffee but odds are if you’re a coffee lover, you’ve already tasted their products! They remind me of Loren Allred, who sang the song ’Never Enough’ in The Greatest Showman. However for years nobody knew it was her until she revealed herself and sang the song on Britain’s Got Talent and won The Golden Buzzer.

Beanly has supplied their products to some of the most established coffee houses and hotel chains in the country. However they no longer want to be the bridesmaid. In addition to having launched their own brand that has been enjoyed by over 900,000 customers, they will soon be opening their first store at Horizon 2 in Gurgaon at the end of this month.?YOU, however, get to enjoy their coffee even before the launch of their flagship store.

Beanly benefits from this collaboration by having the opportunity to share The Golden Buzzer of coffee with customers at a prime Delhi location, at a venue which will now have an even larger footfall of people. Not only will they be in the bookshop, so you can grab a coffee and browse or read, but they will also have pop-ups in the theatre venue each time there is a comedy show.

Also, the comedy shows are being ticketed and publicised on?Bookmyshow and their social media. The mailers, banners and online presence on this large platform will create fabulous awareness for both the Beanly and Kunzum brands.?

The Comedians and The Club:

South Delhi doesn’t have a performance space for comedy with a capacity of more than 80 people, or so I’ve been told. This space allows for audiences of 150+, which makes it worthwhile for established comedians to come in from outside the city and ply their wares. The venue is also in a market that has good footfall and a residential neighbourhood at its?doorstep that doesn’t have another comedy club close by.?

The comics therefore benefit from a new and different audience in a neighbourhood that is upmarket enough to afford decent ticket prices, which benefit the venue, the club and the comedians.

The Club, Laughter Nation in addition to benefitting from being able to program larger shows for new audiences, gets access to a venue that is fully equipped. They also get access to a space that, if it makes sense to all parties going forward, becomes an incubator for grooming new talent.

In fact after the show this Saturday, I’ll be running a Q&A format Masterclass for the comedians who will be performing on the night. If you’re there, you’re welcome to stay back and attend. We’ll talk about hosting, performance skills, dealing with hecklers, confidence, stagecraft and anything else that the comedians and you would like to.

Me:?

Aside from the joy of pulling this together, Kunzum have agreed to keep my books for sale at their stores, and I have promised to give them signed copies for the same. You’ll be able to get the books when you come in for the comedy show as well.

You:

Both you and the neighbourhood get access to a fun evening with great coffee in a beautiful?space. Not just once, but many times over. And you can keep coming back for the coffee at any time of the day, and the shows whenever they happen.

I’m thrilled to have been able to bring all the players together and orchestrate this collaboration. I hope to see you at Kunzum in GK2 in Delhi on the 13th of April to witness the birth of it.

Come for the comedy. Come for the coffee. Come for the books. And if you’ve seen and enjoyed my work in the past, come for me!
