Earlier this week, I attended COFES 2018 event in Scottsdale, AZ. If you’re not familiar with COFES, it stands for The Congress for the Future of Engineering Software. Check the website, participants list and event program.
COFES is special event. I happened to come here often and it is usually a unique place to meet exceptional people and got an annual portion of out of the box inspiration.
Also, the weather is great in sunny Scottsdale, AZ after snowy Boston, MA…
For OpenBOM, COFES is a special event since we launched OpenBOM for the first time at COFES 2016. So, COFES 2018 was two years anniversary for OpenBOM. To remind you, the following slide was part of our COFES 2016 Tech Suite presentation two years ago — Github for BOM.
I have to say , that slide is precisely explains what OpenBOM does. The population of OpenBOM users and customers has grown for these two years. The map of users and customers speaks for itself.
This year I attended COFES and joined Onshape team at Tech suite talking about Onshape 2.0 and Onshape App store. At OpenBOM we are excited about our integration with Onshape providing a fully integrated product with Onshape via Onshape App store.
Joe Dunne, Director of Onshape Partnership development talked about App store and the way products are integrated with Onshape. OpenBOM is there together with other 51 products and companies.
Onshape co-founder and CEO, Jon Hirschtick talked about Onshape modern CAD and how Onshape technology solves old CAD grid-lock.
Jon Hirschtick and Joe Dunne shared how OpenBOM and Onshape are integrated. You can see below demonstration of Onshape and OpenBOM technologies, openness and REST API.
You can see how OpenBOM is integrated also within Onshape user interface providing seamless web and cloud integration experience
I want specially to highlight user experience and seamless data transfer between Onsahpe and OpenBOM. It allows OpenBOM to extend the value of Onshape products by providing rich step of BOM management functions and integrations with other products — MCADs, PDM, PLM and ERP.
Conclusion.
We’ve been celebrating 2 years of OpenBOM in production by demonstrating our achievement in development of OpenBOM technologies and integration. Integration with Onshape is a great example of modern cloud-based technologies and integration capabilities enabling seamless link between data and processes. OpenBOM brings a rich set of functions and integrations with Onshape to support multidisciplinary BOM and integrations to Onshape users.

Best, Oleg
PS. Let’s get to know each other better. If you live in the Greater Boston area, I invite you for a coffee together (coffee is on me). If not nearby, let’s have a virtual coffee session — I will figure out how to send you a real coffee.
