Coduct of 12th Board Exams
Conducting examination during the Carona pandemic
Not having 12th Board exams will harm students and is unfair for students who have worked hard, toiled to prepare and paid heavy fees for tuitions/coaching classes.
It will create problems for getting admissions for further studies in India and aboard..
Conduct online open book examination, all India for Central Boards and statewise for State Boards.
Set a Question Paper with 30 (This can be examined and varied) questions for a duration of 1 hour.
15 questions objective with 3 or 4 multiple choices and balance written answers limited to upto 300 words.
Each answer carries 10 marks. The final evaluation in each board and subject will be based on the top marks scored.
First 10%-Distinction
Next 20%-First Division
Next 20%-Second Division
Next 30%-Third Division
Last 20%-Fail
Example The top score in a subject is 300
Distinction-270-300 marks
First Division-210-269 marks
Second Division-150-209 marks
Third Division-60-149 marks
Fail-00-59 marks
Venue or Examination Centres
Students login from home or any other suitable place, or login from anywhere from a personal computer, laptop or a smart phone.
Login should be secure through fingerprint or such secure method.
They can consult books, notes or internet while answering.
Help or assistance from a teacher, parent or coach or any person is to be prohibited. However this cannot be totally ensured as some students may do this inspite of instructions. It is expected that such students will be around 15 to 20 percent. Considering the overall benefit of having an examination, this should be accepted.
The exams can also be considered to be conducted at designated centres by nominating recognized schools having computer lab facility. The number of students at each centre can be restricted to 1/3rd seating or computer stations. This can also be done for rural or remote areas. This would facilitate supervision.
The central all India boards should be in three slots, ie students get a choice when they would like to appear for the exam. Each slot will have a different question paper for each subject. Each slot can be 3 to 4 days, with two subject exams each day. The three slots should be within a month. If a student misses a chosen slot he/she can appear in the next slot, however once a student has utilized or appeared in all or some subjects in a slot he/she cannot appear again. This is to facilitate and limit paper correction.
The States may follow similar pattern.
My Logic
1. There should be a criteria to establish the student’s merit for further studies or employment.
2. My suggestion regarding the structure of the question paper ie 30 questions in 1 hours with 15 being objective multi choice is based on the assumption that even in an open book exam no student will be able to answer all 30.
I expect that students who are well prepared will require minimum use of reference support will answer more questions and score higher than those using reference support such as books, notes or internet..
These are my impromptu thoughts, if acceptable it can be developed further
