CODING UNPLUGGED workshops on Zoom

“Thanks for new innovative ideas and ways to get coding to be fun and making this a reality to the less fortunate, as this sparks a passion in their lives. The learners at my school ... their eyes lit up as I speak about coding and robotics, and I see their future to be bright with successful opportunities and growth.”

After the popularity of the physical Coding Unplugged workshops, I have decided to present similar content in an online format.

The workshops were presented during March and April in the following centers: Mthatha, East London, Gqeberha, Cape Town, Tshwane, Johannesburg, Durban, Bloemfontein, Qwa Qwa and Windhoek. The main focus of the workshops was on practical activities related to unplugged coding and computational thinking.

The following is an overview of the content

·      Introduction to coding through practical activities

·      Computational Thinking

·      Introduction to coding concepts using the BOATS and TANKS apps

This video was made during the Coding Unplugged workshop in Cape Town.

 Planned Dates

Tuesday 1, 8, 15 and 22 June

 Time

16:00-17:00

Content (schedule could change as we progress)

Week 1 – Introduction and “What is programming” exercises / activities

Week 2 – “Computational logic” exercises / activities and introduction to BOATS

Week 3 - BOATS and introduction to TANKS coding

Week 4 - Advanced coding with TANKS - Conclusion

 Cost

R100 courier per school / NGO

R50 per delegate

R150 per game set (TANKS game & BOATS tokens)

At least one needed per group working together

 Format

Most of the activities will be interactive, and it will be recommended that, where possible, delegates participate in small groups on their side.

 Registration

To simplify compilation of invoice, we recommend that delegates register per school / NGO. This obviously does not exclude individual registrations.

Click on this link to register.

To allow for courier of games, we would prefer registrations to be in by Friday 28 May.

A certificate of attendance can be provided afterwards.
