Coding Was HARD Until I Learned These 5 Things

Someone asked me recently about my "coding setup" when I started programming. I had to laugh. Not because it's funny, but because it takes me back to those 2 AM coding sessions on my keypad phone in Nigeria.
You read that right. Not a laptop. Not even a smartphone. One of those phones where you press a button multiple times for each letter.
I recorded a video about this journey because there are lessons in it I wish someone had told me back then.
About focusing on one language when everything seems important.
About building simple things that actually solve problems.
About making the most of whatever tools you have right now.
But here's something I did not mention in the video:
Those nights of coding on a phone shaped how I approach development even today.
Every time I start making something too complex, I think about that tiny screen that could only show a few lines of code at once.
Forces you to keep things simple.
Back then, I could not run off to Stack Overflow or ChatGPT every time I hit a wall. Internet was a luxury I could only afford during night hours.

Each error meant reading through my code character by character, understanding exactly what was happening.
Painful? Yes. But it built a foundation I still rely on.

I go deeper into specific lessons and share details about that journey. But even if you don't watch it, remember this: Your current limitations—whether they're about tools, time, or resources—are not obstacles.
They're filters that help you focus on what truly matters.
What setup did you start coding with? Hit reply and let me know. I read every comment.
Keep pushing forward. 2025 is full of possibilities, and we'll make it count.
Until next time,

2 个月Mine was a bit funny started on my tablet then, the screen was small code on it daily, kept going and did hng, applied for an Hackathon, got second position. Finished all these and yet no job. Got to a point I was like Omo I am done coding and yet I still wanted to code until I got a job with a company that programming language looks strange and fast forward now I want to grow in that language. Started my YouTube channel teaching it, looking at their documentation and trying to strive at it. I think a lot of people code for the reason that they were being told by others but the best reason is find why you want to code before coding what does coding make you feel

2 个月You’re absolutely right, it’s not about the tools but the mindset that makes the magic happen. Back in 2010, I used to write code on a Nokia Symbian phone and test it on shared hosting platforms. Even now, I don’t have my dream setup, but I’m achieving great results with the tools I have. Thank you for this inspiring reminder!
