A "code red" has reportedly been issued by Google management in response to ChatGPT AI's growing popularity.

Google management is reported to have issued a "code red" following the launch of ChatGPT, the popular conversational AI chatbot developed by OpenAI.

Several meetings regarding Google's AI strategy were attended by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, according to an internal memo and audio recording reviewed by the Times. His instruction was to refocus Google's efforts on addressing the threat ChatGPT poses to its search engine business.

Several Google divisions have been instructed to switch gears to support the creation and introduction of new AI prototypes and products, the Times reported. In the Times, some employees are even charged with developing AI products that produce artwork and images similar to OpenAI's DALL-E, which is used by millions.

An Insider's request for comment was not immediately answered by Google.

At a time when Google employees and industry experts are debating whether ChatGPT, which is managed by former Y Combinator president Sam Altman, is capable of replacing the search engine and harming Google's ad revenue business model, Google has decided to expand its AI product portfolio.

ChatGPT might prevent consumers from clicking on Google links with advertisements, which in 2021 generated $208 billion, or 81% of Alphabet's revenue, according to Sridhar Ramaswamy, who managed Google's advertising division from 2013 to 2018.

ChatGPT had over 1 million users five days after its public debut. By combining data from millions of websites, ChatGPT can produce conversational, human-like answers to questions. Insider reported that users have requested that the bot create college essays, provide coding help, and even be a therapist.

It has already been noted that the bot makes mistakes frequently. Several AI experts told Insider that ChatGPT cannot fact-check what it says or distinguish between truth and falsehood. This ability to come up with answers is referred to by AI researchers as "hallucinations."

It is possible for the bot to make sexist, racist, and disrespectful comments, Bloomberg reported.

Due to LaMDA's wide margin of error and susceptibility to toxicity, Google is hesitant to release the chatbot to the general public. According to a recent CNBC story, Google executives are concerned about reputational risks associated with making it widely available.

ChatGPT was announced before Zoubin Ghahramani, head of Google's AI center Google Brain, said that people cannot use chatbots consistently.

According to experts, Google might enhance its search engine over time instead of removing it.

During Google's annual developer conference, I/O, scheduled for May, we might get a glimpse at new AI products, as the company is reportedly working nonstop on them.
