The Cochise - AZ's oldest historical hotel
Here in Scottsdale we frequently have the opportunity to photograph the newest contemporary resorts and spas in the world. Recently I took a summer retreat from the heat of the Valley of the Sun to the 4000 foot high desert of Cochise AZ and photographed what is believed to be the only railroad hotel of its vintage still operating in Arizona. Majestic southern Arizona is beautiful this "monsoon" time of year and is a very popular vacation stop brimming with Arizona's western history.
Filmmaker and western historian, Phil Gessert has purchased the registered historical landmark, Cochise Royal Hotel, built in 1897, and is making strides to restore the magical place. The Cochise Hotel predates all of the other historic hotels in Arizona that are still in operation, Bisbee's Copper Queen (1902), Douglas Gasden (1905), Flagstaffs Monte Vista (1928). The Cochise is one of the oldest hotels associated with the Southern Pacific Railroad. To get more information visit https://www.cochisehotel.net/
