Last week I met with someone who has become one of my true mentors and coaches. During the conversation, he casually mentioned discussing something with his therapist. I was struck by how nonchalant a point it was. Have we finally reached the point where we can have open, honest conversations about mental health and wellness? Can we celebrate seeking professional guidance as a positive rather than a negative? I’m not certain he would even remember mentioning it: and that’s exactly the point. Extraordinary Leaders must learn to view Mental Wellness with the same lens as Physical Wellness.
?Call to Action
?Extraordinary Leaders promote Mental Wellness. We recognize the old adage of “suck it up” belongs on the same trash heap as manual typewriters and bag phones. Extraordinary Leaders take an active role in promoting behaviors and attitudes that foster Mental Wellness.
What’s it Worth
Does your workplace offer mental wellness benefits? Typically they would be structured within an EAP (Employee Assistance Program). Learn what your company offers and become an advocate for mental wellness. Create an environment where strong mental wellness (not a fake, tough guy persona) is prioritized and celebrated.
