Coates v West

I love what Coates has been saying, and as much as I like West, he can sometimes sound plumb goofy. I expected to totally disagree with West in his assessment of Coates.

On one level I completely disagree with both of them, but in the context of this article, I find West's wisdom to be indisputable.

My disagreement with both of them is in the asumption that there IS a white America. There is one America, that has been appropriated, from its founding by self identified "white people" who are, in fact, no better, no worse, no smarter, no dumber, in fact, no different, than any other minority who sets itself up to oppress a majority. This structure, with West gets closest to, is not the 30-40% of America who support racism because of fear and ignorance, it is a small group of well educated, old line wealthy families, as well as a few new money folks, like th eKochs and the Waltons, who benefit the most by havinga divided working class. and color and culture is a great. easy, shorthand to divide on. We need to be prepared to literally massacre the super rich and educate both black and white and brown americans on who this country and its resources belong to, and to realize a white coal miner and a black tractor driver anda brown oil feild worker are equals, no, not equals, the same.
