Coalition Urges HHS To Stop Higher Payments to HOPDs

A coalition of doctor, insurer and patient groups is encouraging HHS to expand site-neutral payment rules in the upcoming outpatient regulations proposal to apply site neutral payment policies across all outpatient care settings to eliminate the higher rate at hospital outpatient departments. In a letter to HHS Secretary Tom Price and CMS Administrator Seema Verma, the Alliance for Site Neutral Payment Reform argued the move would slow provider consolidation and prevent Medicare from paying significantly different prices for a procedure based just on where it was done.
