APPEA Conference 2022
Supporting (or being part of) the global transition to?#lowercarbon?fuels, specifically from coal to gas for electricity generation, is often part of the discussion used to validate the ongoing need for LNG. We heard it from the industry during presentations at #APPEAConf?yesterday. We consultants have used it in EIA documentation for clients and titleholders.

Yet looking away from the global perspective and back at our own country... Australia has vast amounts of onshore and offshore gas. However, for whatever?#political and/or ?#commercial?reasons, we still have an energy mix predominantly sourced from ?#coal?(acknowledging that this varies vastly at State-level). So, we talk, and expect, a global transition to lower carbon power sources... but just not in our backyard?!

This begs the usual question, why not? If not now, then when? What needs to change outside the energy industry to push the change inside the energy industry? Are social expectations enough, or do we need a political kick to change the goalposts on our domestic footprint? Will that political kick ever come?
