IS COAL MINING CONSERVATIVE?
Ed Gemmell LEADER, CLIMATE PARTY
"BRITAIN SHOULD LEAD THE CLEAN INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION"
Has the World gone mad?
Or is it just Conservative MPs? Maybe, it is just Conservative minister Michael Gove?
I am sure I was not the only person who could not believe their ears when they listened to the announcement that Britain is opening its first coal mine in 30 years?
Sorry. What did I just hear? I must have heard it wrongly? Am I dreaming?
In the midst of a Climate Emergency?
When we are literally fighting to ensure survival on the planet our Conservative leaders decide to nail the coffin down firmly with carbon infused steel nails.
Utter madness?
This is not Conservative!
Now climate conscious Conservatives and conservatives have to rise and demand this decision is rescinded. Conservatives want to preserve nature and provide a future for our children. Conservatives want to create stability and not chaos – stability will be safeguarded if we deep dive and decarbonise now – chaos will come if we delay or even worse if we actively pollute and destroy our surroundings (opening coal mines!). The ‘precautionary principle’ is uniquely Conservative.

Conservatives want financial prosperity and economic growth. That prosperity and economic growth will come from Britain leading the Decarbonisation Revolution. Britain should, in fact MUST, lead from the front with carbon zero 2030 as the target. We can do this! The City is ready to lead in financing the absolutely inevitable, most lucrative and fastest national upgrade in history. Our eco-tech sector is up for the challenge and is ready to inspire the World. Britain’s workforce is ready – many will not even work for companies that are not committed to net zero.
Coal mines are our dirty history – no more coal mines!?
When we reach carbon zero in 2030 Britain will see a decade of financial uplift.
Don’t let the naysayers tell you otherwise. Don’t let those in thrall to the fossil fuel industry distract you from the course.
History calls and Britain is poised to respond.

2 年Just beyond contemptuous, the economic excuse won’t add up, the coal has already been rejected by UK steel, so it’s to be exported to highest bidder making it a business case no matter the cost.
