Coal Handling and Processing Plant Audit

A?Coal Handling and Preparation Plant?(CHPP) as known as?coal preparation plant,?prep plant,?tipple?or?wash plant, is a facility to beneficiate clean product coal from raw run of mine coal.?The beneficiation process usually involves crushing, screening and wet processing of various size fractions?to obtain a marketable product at optimal yield.?The coal product, or products of multiple grades, is stockpiled before being loaded into rail cars, barges, or ships for transport to market.

Raw coal from the mine is cleared using different physical processes, with or without any chemical reagents, to obtain a product to be sold in the market for metallurgical (steel making) or thermal (power generation) purposes. Removal of waste?material from the raw coal reduces the mineral matter in the coal product (as determined by Ash% determination), thus improving the desired properties of the coal and its market?value.

Coal Handling and Processing Plant Audits are undertaken on a regular or ad hoc basis by a mine or mining contractor to ensure that the CHPP is performing at its optimum and product output (yield%) is maximum for a given plant feed. CHPP audits involves physical sampling of multiple process streams within the CHPP and laboratory analysis of each of the sampled streams.

CHPP audits are performed to:

·???????trial the throughput of new feeds and/or feed rates

·???????monitor products produced from these new feed coals or feed ratios

·???????find out how a new coal type will perform when washed through a particular CPP type

·???????the product that can be produced from the particular feed type

·???????to measure the performance of new plant process equipment and existing equipment (wear and tear)

·???????to obtain a baseline to compare with results after any planned process equipment or overall plant capacity upgrades

·???????to check that the plant is operating within the specified requirements following any upgrade work to full plant or single circuits
