Coaching The Whole Person

Coaching The Whole Person

Society has ingrained in us the habit of suppressing our emotions, urging us not to express them, especially in professional settings. Phrases like "boys don't cry" or "big girls don't cry" were often used with good intentions, but the consequence is that we've been conditioned to stifle our emotional expression. Recent scientific discoveries shed light on the fact that these emotions, stored within us for years, can have profound physiological effects on our bodies.

The prolonged suppression of emotions triggers inflammation and, over time, contributes to a state of "dis-ease" in the body. Chronic pain, defined as persistent discomfort lasting more than 12 weeks, often finds its roots in unresolved emotions. This type of pain serves as a signal from our body, urging us to address and resolve the underlying emotional triggers. Unfortunately, mainstream narratives often lead us to attribute such pain to aging or send us on a futile quest for external solutions, overlooking the internal journey needed for healing.

Societal conditioning further compounds the issue by encouraging us to "suck it up and push through," especially in traditionally masculine roles. This dismissive approach teaches us to ignore our body's signals and persist with our current routines. However, these symptoms are not to be ignored; they are our body's language, urging us to pause, reflect, and make necessary changes.

Now, you might be wondering, "What does this have to do with coaching, be it business, life, or executive coaching?" The answer is, it has everything to do with it. Your clients likely carry suppressed emotions that, when unaddressed, can lead to inflammation, ill-health, or chronic pain. As a coach equipped with the right tools, you have the ability to guide them through releasing these toxic emotions, thereby reducing their risk of "dis-ease." We are all interconnected, we can never just focus on one thing, we need to look at the whole human in front of us, using all the tools at our disposal.

One of the powerful tools I use for releasing negative emotions is Time Line Therapy?. If you're interested in learning more about my upcoming training in this technique, please feel free to direct message me.
