Coaching the Spirit: The First Step

Many sages through the millennia of human evolution repeated the great sayings of the Veda ‘You are the Creator of your Destiny’. It is the spiritual energy within our material framework that guides and inspires what we do in this scene of our life. Let us learn how.

?All learning in Vedic times started with this prayer in Taittiriya Upanishad . Let’s begin with it.

?May the universe protect and nourish us.

May we learn with energy.

May our learning be powerful.

May there be no conflict.

?Coaching the Spirit newsletter is focused on action learning and its wisdom, rather than knowledge alone. Knowledge is worthless unless it’s reflected upon and experienced as a feedback process that serves as a crucible to wisdom. One of the Vedic guides to learning in the gurukul system was, ‘sravana manana nidhityasana’. This can be loosely translated as ‘knowledge gathering through the senses, reflecting to create awareness and anchoring to design actions.’ Today, this is known as taxonomy of learning.

?At the end of each newsletter after this introduction, there will be a few questions to inquire into, reflect, self-coach oneself, and share as possible. Without this effort, reading the book and listening to the webinar would be of limited value. To make this learning a value add to you and the cohort, please reflect, practice and share. The newsletter will focus on applications arising from the knowledge on Yoga, Tantra, Meditation, Emotional Energies, Create Your Future along with the convergence of science & spirituality, and guidelines for sustaining growth in learning.

Why do you need this?

I use the term coaching is a very generative sense. Each of us is a coach. Each of us is a leader. Just the way we are spiritual beings, not knowing we are. Do discover who you are as a coach, leader and a spiritual energy being as we travel together.

?Coaching has become mainstream now. Whether life or work coaching, multiple niches have arisen within them to address and resolve disempowering work life issues. Some are thematic, such as relationship, career, transition, and work life integration; some are age, gender and culture based; and many are about addressing emotions such as anger, grief, and unhappiness. Coaching can and should address all issues that disempower us through limiting beliefs so that we can reframe these belief and value systems to perform at our best potential.

?The question that bothers many reflective coaches is that after all their efforts to coach people on many of these disempowering issues, they reappear hydra-headed. However good the coach is, however transformational the process is, and however much the client is inspired, there seems to be something more that may need to be done at a deeper level of conscious and unconscious awareness, without which we all go through cycles of disempowerment and invalidation.

?Three disempowerment issues bother us most.

?The first is loss. It can be loss of one’s loved ones, fear of losing one’s own life or that of loved ones, loss of limbs and faculties, loss of wealth, loss of relationship and such others. Quite often this loss is accompanied by fear, as well as resulting guilt, regret, shame, anger and other such emotions.

?The second is expectation. We want something more than what we have. This may be in wealth, position, power, relationships, achievements and many such other things. These are desires born of greed. When thwarted, they create irritation, anger, regret and other emotions, the seven sins included.

?The third is not a reality, but imaginary. It is anxiety about something that hasn’t happened, but may. Anxiety leads to frustration, anger, and depression. As a wise person once said, 99% of anxieties never materialize. The 1% that do materialize are good for us.

?In truth, losses and fears, expectations and desires, and anxiety, are a constant of life, as is death. No coaching can help any of us get over these. Coaching, however, can help accept all this as part of our life.

?Everyone loves a ’happiness’ coach. They are not real. There can never be ‘happiness’ without ‘unhappiness’. Do a reality check on the lives of ‘happiness’ coaches and gurus who run inspiring programs. Find out how stable their lives are. Bliss, often confused with happiness, is the state beyond happiness and sadness, pain and pleasure, success and failure. Bliss is about acceptance in gratitude. This book is not about ephemeral bliss, but sustainable acceptance with gratitude. That is what Coaching the Spirit is about.

?Our ancients knew about the spirit or energy within all of us that sustains us. Every religion understood that there was more to living creatures, including humans, than mind and body matter; that there was something beyond the perishable mind body. Alignment of that spirit or energy that was within us with the spirit and energy of nature and the universe was the puzzle all religions attempted to solve. Towards that objective each religion laid down a unique pathway. Conflicting as they may seem, all religions spoke the same language. Followers of these religions distorted their basic message and destroyed one another when their faiths seemed to differ.

?Modern sciences, especially Quantum Science and Neural Bio Sciences have found several of the ancient religious truths, which were mysterious, esoteric and inexplicable earlier, more understandable and relevant now. In this program, we attempt to explain the ancient wisdom of several religious pathways in simple language and seek to align the ancient wisdom with the added knowledge of modern science. This may help the veiled energy within us to accept what happens around us, for better or worse, in sickness and health, in wealth and poverty, and still maintain our blissful composure.

?Learning Outcome
