It was a big game in college football and an even bigger Texas A&M University football program win (no- we (Aggies) are not over it). The game was great- really good football- but Head Coach Jimbo Fisher's post-game interview was the coaching, leadership, and mindset cherry on top that I didn't know I needed!
Which piece of advice resonates most strongly with you?
Here are the highlights:
Q: How do you keep your guys believing they could pull off something like this, after the last 2 weeks and all the disappointment?
[Context: an out-for-the season Starting QB- Haynes King- who got hurt in game #2; a redshirt sophomore Secondary, 2 straight losses, and a LOT of public emotions]
2:19: "Eliminate all the clutter... you write your own history. You believe in your own self. You're going to have trials and tribulations and you're going to decide how you respond to adversity and how you respond to success"?
3:50:?" ...that's reality. You have to understand there's a difference between what your results are and the reality of why those results are there and then you coach through them"?
Q: What does a big win like this mean to the team??
4:42 "we'll find out what it means in the future by how we respond to this"?
5:39 "Play the next play- don't worry about the scoreboard... the scoreboard will say what you want when you win your job more time than the other guy does and you gotta have the understanding to do that- you gotta keep playing"
Q: Does this week's game exhibit the teams full potential??
6:38: "We can (have potential) if we play well- every team does- when you execute it's amazing. When you're mentally locked in, and things go well, and you learn to persevere and you learn to push through things... when you're young and you make mistakes, [you] dwell on them because [you] don't want to mess up. You can't look that way- you gotta live in vision or circumstance
{Talking about the 12th Man and Kyle Field}?
"the atmosphere and environment tonight... the recruits, and the people, and the love- that's as good an environment as there is in college football, bar none"?
Q: What was the post-game locker room like?

9:30 "If you don't understand why you win or have success, it's wasted. If you don't understand why you made a mistake, it's wasted."?
Q: Asking how it felt for Calzada, QB, to be cheered for after weeks of negative comments on social media
10:52 "I understand who he is, I understand his preparation, and the mistakes he made, he didn't make on purpose and he's learning... I hope he doesn't read anything on today's (game)... you gotta eliminate the clutter. You gotta live in the moment...?
11:20: "I'm happy for him, as a person, because he's a very character, quality young man"?
{Asked about Special Teams Kicker, Smalls}
11:37: "Trust the process. Go back to fundamentals"?
Q: In a game with as many swings as this one had, how do you keep the confidence on the sideline up with the guys??
11:56 "I just go back and remind them: when it was good, one play at a time and when it was down, all we need is one drive one play at a time and we did it"?
FINAL SCORE: 41-38
