What do you picture when you hear "midlife crisis"??
It's often stereotyped with images of men over 40 in sports cars or on motorcycles. But let's delve deeper into a different kind of crisis that can strike at any point in your career: the realisation that you're good at what you do, but perhaps it's not what you're meant to do for life. You yearn for more and deserve more. This awakening can feel like a "corporate midlife crisis."
The pandemic has been a time of introspection for many. Stuck in the metaphorical hamster wheel of life, it's easy to overlook how unsustainable and unhealthy our lifestyles can be. We often use rational-sounding excuses to justify our continued efforts, ignoring two critical costs: opportunity and anxiety. The former involves what we lose when we stick to the status quo, while the latter is the internal turmoil we face when we ignore our true calling.
Waiting until it's too late—waking up with regret and panic, feeling like you've wasted time and talent—is far from ideal. This is often when people seek coaches, feeling like they're trying to run underwater. The frustration of being paid for the job, not for who you are or your knowledge, is a common sentiment, transcending age limits.

Coaching isn't about fixing the past; it's about building a better future. It's about understanding that our identities are shaped by narratives often not our own. A key conversation in coaching is distinguishing what is natural from what is normal for an individual.

A crisis, by definition, is a turning point. Understanding what it is, how it builds up, and how to navigate through it empowers you to take charge of your life and make decisions that serve you better.

10 个月This is a fantastic definition of coaching- I’m officially stealing it! Of course coaching does look to the past, to see what led you to the present, but I love it for it’s future focus and the energy and excitement it brings to clients.
