Coaching From The Ground Up
One of the most fundamental things organizations can do is to go beyond the traditional training and coaching. Often, if not all the time, people are coached and taught as it relates to their job functionality. Most people are never trained or coached on how to accept coaching. Most people are never trained or coached on how to overcome change and challenge. What if organizations took time to fuel their employee's minds positively? Many organizations will on-board their employees, but will on-board their employees specific to the job requirements, processes, and procedures associated with the organization. What if organizations took a proactive step towards teaching employees how to ultimately coach themselves? What if organizations took a holistic approach of feeding their employees mind with positive material to help offset the stresses and rigors often associated with the day to day workplace?
You often hear so many times about the left brain and right brain and how people have different uses of their brain. In its most simplistic terms, I think there is something called the positive brain and negative brain. There is no neutral brain. One of my jokes that I crack when I do public speaking is tell people that when people go home and their family or significant other or spouse says, honey, how was your day? You'd never hear somebody say neutral. I didn't have a feeling at all from eight to five. People typically laugh, but what it references is that people usually have good days or bad days. One of the reasons people have bad days is because they're not equipped and incapable of overcoming specific things such as change or challenge. They don't get along with maybe feedback that they received that they did not agree with or a circumstance or situation that prompts them to get out of their comfort zone. Training and coaching cannot just be tactical. Training and coaching also has to be to the foundation of the typical things that people go through and position employees to successfully overcome them.
