At the end of a recent coaching engagement, a client was so excited when sharing with me about how he had become more self-aware.
As simplistic as this may sound, I understood how important this attribute is for a leader.
In fact, there are two very important pieces of research that come to mind as I reflect on his feedback.
The first one is from a study done by the Korn-Ferry Institute that reported a positive association between self-awareness and a company’s rate of return, while the second refers to findings on how self-awareness is one of the secrets to leadership success.
The positive link between a leader's self-awareness and a company’s rate of return (RoR) explains why more and more organisations are nesting coaching within their larger organisational programs. They understand that coaching encourages individuals to deepen their insights and translate those insights into action.
