Coaching Best Practices

Coaching Best Practices

Our Easy to read Deep Thoughts guest this week is someone I trust and take advice from. Sandy Hansen-Wolff is an advisor for my companies, occasionally my life, and Sandy is a long-time, well-respected, intuitive business coach. Coaching Best Practices

Sandy chose this topic in a background email conversation we were having and from there, I’m able to take this newsletter in all sorts of directions. Ironically, I’m using my intuition to guide my choices as I type this.?

What did Sandy mean?

I’m a long-time boxing coach and similar to my boxing coach experience, my last 25 years in business pivoted on my ability to coach people through hard situations. The pain of boxing and business feel similar.?

As a long-time coach, I made enough mistakes to know what they look like, and when others are making similar mistakes (the ones that I made), it stands out like a sore thumb = instantly noticeable.?

This is counterintuitively challenging.?

What do you do when you have a solution to someone's problem but they’re not ready to receive it = Coaching.?

Coaching is an art?

Specifically, most people are not ready to receive the right answers. So much so, it's safe to assume you, me, and all secondary viewers of this newsletter are subject to the same “Knowing better doesn’t change anything” dependency.?

Odds are, someone is saying what we need to hear at this moment, right now, today, and we’re just not hearing it. Coaching isn’t what you see on the surface?

Coaching isn’t the transfer of information specifically (measurement bias). Its most significant impact is in expanding the reception of the received. Guiding the receiver to realize the information is ready to be received. Accepting > Learning.?

In my experience and I’m curious to hear Sandy’s take, the info itself is less significant than the act of receiving info. Helping boxers learn, that they need to learn is step 1 in my gym.?

I’m thrilled to be a part of your program Jonathon. Finding a coach who really gets you and the challenges you are experiencing on a very human level is the first step.
