Coaching 3 People to $30k - Week 1

“My mind just keeps going back to all of the rejections, and layoffs, and all of that. It makes me feel like I’m not even good at what I do.”

I interviewed more than 20 entrepreneurs over the past few weeks — trying to find the 3 people that I wanted to coach for free as a part of this content series (coaching 3 people to $30k mrr).

Everyone I spoke to had the same two pain points:

  1. A lack of clarity & alignment
  2. A lack of leads

We will touch on both of those things a lot throughout this journey. But first — we have to talk about it because it’s something that has come up with a few people.

Mindset (cheesy, I know).

If you’re wanting to achieve a goal (in this case $30k mrr) then you need to have some level of belief that you can do it.

Meet Gina — we were co-workers (in one of the few normal jobs I’ve had). At that job I built a $10k mrr side hustle in 3 weeks. Gina inspired this whole series one morning when I was giving her some advice.

Model: 1:1 Consulting / Coaching Services

Super Power: Strategy & Adaptability

What She Does: Helps solopreneurs create and monetize their personal brand & signature method

What Content She Creates: Educational content around personal branding, her journey of building her business, vlogs

Starting Monthly Revenue: $0

Total Revenue: $0

When Gina and I started working together she had just gotten certified in Peak Performance coaching and she wanted to start building a coaching practice. She didn’t feel like she got everything that she needed in order to grow her business after investing $10,000.

We set her up with a process to get leads (we’ll talk about all of this later because it will vary for each client). She took on some clients for free and started actively selling her new service pretty quickly.

Honestly — it was awesome to see her move so quickly because she was hesitant on the sales side initially.

We went with free clients to start because this was something she has never done before. I also wanted her to gather some testimonials, get used to selling (even if it was free), and gain some momentum.

She did everything I asked of her (and more) but something was still off.

In one of our last meetings, we had a heart to heart and got to the root of what was bothering her.

  1. Feeling discouraged.
  2. Wasn’t passionate about what she was doing even though she invested in a certification.
  3. Felt like she didn’t have a lot of influence. A following of 15k on TikTok and she was just getting started on LinkedIn.
  4. She wanted to feel great about what she was offering people, and she didn’t feel like the value was there in the way that she wanted it to be.

Reframing Can Give You Confidence

We’ll dive more into this image later.

The gist is, basically the more influence you have the easier it is to attract leads (network, following, community, etc.)

And the more expertise you have the easier it is to deliver your service & retain clients.

You can’t reframe your influence (you have to build that) but you can reframe your expertise — you can do this with your content or your offer.

Here’s an example:

An entrepreneur, with minimal video editing experience, launches a short form video editing course. (expertise level 3 out of 10)

An entrepreneur, with minimal video editing experience, launches a video editing course for entrepreneurs that are newbie editors. Teaching them everything they need to get started and learn the basics of editing. (expertise level 8 out of 10)

By changing the framing (who the course is for) your level of expertise raises.

In Gina’s case she decided that she wanted to move back into marketing and personal branding. She has a ton of experience here and she really enjoys the strategy and coaching side. This gave her a lot more confidence.

She built a new offer to reflect this change.

And I reminded her that she is awesome (because she is)!

  • She has grown her personal accounts to around 20k followers
  • She has worked with DREAM brands like TikTok.
  • She has pushed through so many challenges and adapted when most people would have given up.
  • She has a ton of marketing & personal branding experience (this is just her first business)

She landed a free client this week. She is using that to test and refine her new offer.

Momentum.

She took initiative on a sales call and sold an [in-depth] social media audit for $200.

This is her first sale.

Momentum.

Now she is actively selling her offer at $1500.

It’s something she is great at. And something she knows is worth it for her ideal client.

You can always reframe if you’re not feeling confident. With your content, your services, or just how you view yourself.

Believing in yourself isn’t the absence of doubt or fear.

Believing in yourself is choosing to move forward even with doubt or fear.

That movement will create momentum and your momentum with give you more confidence.

Business [to me] is like a video game. You’re the main character. You’re not skilled enough to beat the end game right now, and that’s okay. But you have to keep gaining experience points and learning along the way.

So long as you don’t stop, you’ll improve, and eventually get good enough to beat the game. And the cool part is, you can get to the end in your own way — spending your XP (experience points) in a way that fits your playstyle.

Right now, Gina is in the beginning. Gaining XP and I’d say she has more than enough to close her first 2-3 clients at $1500 a month.
