You may have noticed lately that your LinkedIn profile 'About' section has moved up the page to make it more visible to those who visit your profile.
Quite often this section is seen as a little space to tell the world all about you. However, if you want people to stay on your profile for more than a nano second you are going to have to make this space all about them!
Here are some points to think about when writing your About section:
- Solutions for pleasure and pain: Avoid the urge to ramble on about all the wonderful services you offer, this is instantly a turn off. Instead, focus on how you can solve your potential client's problems. Put yourself in the shoes of your clients, write down 10 things that you solve for them, make 5 about pleasure and 5 about pain. For example......working with you means I have better time management and therefore more free time to spend with family/friends....not working with you could result in never having the time to work on my business and only in my business. Use the kind of language that your ideal clients use when drafting your section, and think about what challenges they face, and how can you help overcome them? By framing your services in terms of solutions, you'll instantly grab attention and show that you understand your audience's needs.
- Setting Yourself Apart: Let's face it – there are probably hundreds (if not thousands) of people on LinkedIn offering the same services as you. So how do you stand out from the crowd? Highlight what makes you different. Maybe it's your unique approach, your point of view, and what you stand for. Having worked with many Coaches and Consultants over the years, one thing I know to be true is not one of them has the same approach, methods or mantras, they all have something unique to offer because they have all experienced life differently. Life experience is what sets us apart and shapes how we want to see others succeed.
- Personal Branding: People don't just want to work with a faceless entity. They want to work with someone they like, someone they trust, someone they can relate to. And that's where your personality comes in. Not only does it make you more memorable, but it also helps people connect with you on a deeper level. Your goal is to build genuine connections and generate interest from the type of audience you want to work with while remaining true to who you are.
So, as you revisit your LinkedIn profile, take a good hard look at that 'About' section. Is it doing you justice? Is it capturing the essence of who you are and what you have to offer? If not, don't be afraid to shake things up. Remember, your About section is your chance to make a killer first impression – so make it count!
