Coach & Coaches

When people or clients talked to me about coaches, and based on my experience as a martial artist and an ex Muay Thai trainer , I always answer that there are "Coach and Coaches". There are coaches out there who will go all the way to extract the best in you and make you succeed. That was my goal and that of some other coaches I knew, but I also came across some that were more interested in themselves and their earnings. Same goes with fitness coaches or other fitness pundits. This is just my personal view point that I am expressing here and just referring to those that are implementing the Agile mindset and framework.

In the Agile world or simply Professional world, we differentiate between a Coach and a Consultant. For me there shouldn't be a difference. The coach or the consultant should be able to understand the client's context and be able to suggest the appropriate strategies and tactics to help them improve the internal dynamics whilst bringing in a change in organisational structure to improve overall efficiency. I can understand that there are a lot of people working as independent out there and they have to be careful also what they say as their livelihoods depend on their revenue, but as Coaches/Consultants shouldn't we look how we can help our clients?

I was astonished when one prospective client said that he was more looking for a coach that guide than actually doing, when I know he already has prescriptive coaches and is not happy with the outcome. A coach/consultant should explain, implement and guide the team towards understanding the output and outcome of those changes that are being deployed. I know this is an eternal subject and this is just my one cent comment to understand your point of view. Thanks for sharing your ideas and comments in the most professional and respecting way as I am not in any way criticising the coach or the consultant.
