Creator of us has always been around and ensured that - we have adapted to his plans well. For those non believers - its Ok to surrender to the law of the universe or excuse yourself from reading it further.
The COVID -19 is no different – and yes some might argue, god is at his cruelest form now. True to that too. The man kind is in the verge becoming extinct as well get wiped out, well they say COVID - 19, has a potentiality to impact over 70% of the population on earth.
That’s scary. No amount of tell tale will help us to ignore this man made (that’s what I believe without any political or geo tagging intention) pandemic, which is making us run like a dog hiding the tail between the legs.
The similar in nature – “ The Spanish Flu” – lasted between Feb - 1918 till April – 1920 comparatively is nothing , but the world population in 1918 was – some 1.5 billion I guess and the pandemic then impacted over 500 million people. ( Thanks to google – andavar – well Andavar in Tamil language which is my native language, means God). The Pandemic impacted the world in four successive waves over two years. Like now, even then the first outbreak was disputed and the number of people impacted was always an estimate. For beginners, we didn’t have a mass electronic media coverage or a WHO data made available to all of us in those days. Be it Black Death 1346-1353, Great Plague of London 1665 – 1666, Influenza 1957-58, Hong Kong Flu 1968-69, Swine Flu Pandemic 2009-10, Flu Pandemic 1889-92, West African Ebola, SARS Out break 2002-04, MERS CoV outbreak since 2012 and our USA Flu Season – 2017-18…. The man kind has sailed through all these in their life span on earth.
Millions of heroic but limited Heath care workers, doctors, volunteers – you name them are fighting this war for us with an invisible enemy without a clue as to where is he attacking us from. We have no answer for things like - a western society which is supposed to be high on hygiene ( namely USA for example) and the developing nations which is learning hygienic practices ( namely India for example) – both are impacted equally, with varying gaps in various parameters.
A common man is never confused so much in his life that every waking hours seems to be a blessing at the same time - completely disoriented. People are struggling to keep up to their daily demand of lively hood – a battle will continue for some more time without any specified time line though.
Almost all of us have learnt to ignore electronic media. The other day a friend of mine was explaining his routine, wake up, walk up to the home office, set up the desk, get onto calls, clear mails and believe that the business is pouring from all corners of life. Little did I realize that he was actually narrating my story.
Believe me you, every book written in the past century about business success, management tools, management beliefs – never would have factored a pandemic of this large scale. Forget about preparation, just the imagination wasn’t around even to think of it. No worries, there will be some more millions will emerge to teach you how to survive - pandemic like COVID - 19, just learn to ignore and move on. This is beyond management comprehension to deal with or for any individuals.
Decoding the virus has taken months for us, with a varying reports of some one purposefully hidden it from the world ( China I mean) and WHO supported it ( well that’s what Trump says, I was told and they are disassociating themselves from WHO completely with the funding support withdrawn?), so why on earth we the so called civilized society are left to fetch for ourselves for some one else’s failed attempt on a research?. Research on what, my foot?. Virus? And the biggest question - IF CHINA CLAIMS TO HAVE CONTAINED IT, HOW DID THEY DO IT?. HAVE THEY BUILT AN ANTIDOTE PARALLEL TO THEIR VIRUS RESEARCH?. Who knows, god knows - not us. Individual world leaders are playing with their - big time ego without resolving the issue in hand that the pandemic whether you are a super power or just a puppet in the world order has impacted you so deep that, you got to be a fool not realizing this.
And people across the world are getting fooled. The other day I read a report in guardianhttps://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jul/04/why-do-muslim-states-stay-silent-over-chinas-uighur-brutality - talking about altogether a different issue, raking about the Islamic world silent on China oppressing its Muslim population. Is that true?. Really?. Let’s give that a try in any other country which is not declared as an Islamic state and I believe the world reaction will be different I guess. Oh my fellas, the ones who are oppressed in China if that’s true are also humans and the organisations across the globe which claims to be so focused on fighting the human rights violation in Kashmir issue to black lives matter should also fight for these humans those are treated inhuman in a country which threatens the world economy, disregarding the valuable human life altogether.
The might of people is always larger than the might of the oppressor. History has taught us well. The last of the dictators in the past few decades or so, those who got wiped out shows us that it’s the will of the people which wins always. Be in North Korea or China, an oppression is a measure to gain a temporary control over people especially when there is no other option for the vast majority of the people to gain by opposing the government or its rulers. But when the humanity itself is disregarded and makes them look like yet another species which has a life, I am sure even your own trained dogs / pets attacks you back. Cornered cat is the most dangerous among them all. Right?.
Back home, millions are on the streets. We are witnessing a community grappling without a wherewithal to survive. Name an industry which is not impacted. Millions of workers are out of work, without income and are starving. And those who can afford an internet or a connectivity are busy wishing a super star to get well soon and our politicians are busy assuring the family of the super star all the support......while we are loosing thousands in a day, thrown out ( seen in those horrifying visuals getting circulated in social media) like a garbage without the kin and kith are able to bid adieu to their loved ones. Every one of us needs the best wishes, every one of us surviving humans, untouched by claws of the pandemic – needs the best wishes. Every one of us those who are impacted and are fighting the pandemic needs best wishes to survive.
The hope is emerging when ICMR declared that on or before 15th of August India will have its vaccine. In a democracy which has driven the gap between haves and have nots, the ones who can afford will manipulate the system to gain the elite privilege of getting administered the vaccine if that’s made available. Millions of poor across the country will have a slow access. Pharmaceutical companies will make a merry out of this – government will procure them on a subsidized pricing and allow open market selling of the vaccine with a hope that the ones who can afford will pay a better price. Both the government and the Pharma companies – it will be a win – win for them. But hope is the biggest element in human survival. Hope of a better tomorrow. We humans are hardwired. We have this innate nature to assimilate things much faster than we think we are capable of. Together time now to co-create value for the fellow human beings.
Follow the simple rule of social distancing and extend a support wherever needed a fellow human being. We for the first time in the history of man kind are willing to pray for the welfare of our neighbours more than we thought we will. Come together .... let’s pray for a better tomorrow without which we human beings have no value in living...to live life.. one needs hope... Prayers fulfil hopes ....and humanity needs hope.

4 年Very well articulated Ravi. I believe self belief and confidence is very crucial to overcome this disruption. Medico psychology clearly in states that self belief is essential for immunity and recovery. Eat healthy. Be active. And, keep going. Since prevention is the best recourse on this, Govt can pitch in by distributing health nutrients and vitamins.

4 年Well articulated, Ravi. With insights on current pandemic and connecting with past pandemics, you have walked us through history of pandemics. Prayerfully, we will have a vaccine soon which should help in controlling the waves that are expected soon.
