Oftentimes, manufacturers are the backbone of our local economies.

I grew up in Oswego, NY- whose economy heavily relied on manufacturing companies to provide good, local jobs- my dad’s included.

As a kid, my dad would teach me about his work at Novelis, an aluminum recycling plant, at dinner before he would head into shift work.

“You’re the man of the house while I’m gone Dakota,” he would say. I always took on that responsibility but had no idea what my dad’s work did in the grand scheme of things.

Many years later, I see how my father's career allowed me to have the life I had growing up. It put food on the table, a roof over our heads, and gave our family stability. Novelis employs thousands of people and similarly improves life this way at a local level.

They are one of many manufacturing companies in the Central New York region that support families just like mine- and I see a massive opportunity to help these manufacturers enhance sustainability to preserve our communities.

A local, American manufacturer recently approached us looking to use commercial solar as a solution to rising overhead costs.

After determining the site wasn’t properly incentivized for rooftop solar, we were able to pivot to community solar- an easy way to access lower electricity costs in exchange for participating in local solar projects.

Within 90 days, Community Solar Authority was able to deliver turnkey access to ~$25,000 per year in savings on a $0 investment-without installing solar.

The manufacturer is approaching 100 years in business, and has a longstanding commitment to resiliency- this was a simple way of putting that into practice and saving money with an infinite ROI.

Creating momentum in the CNY community is special because- these are my roots. It’s exciting to play a role in enhancing resiliency for American manufacturing. We’re proud to serve our clients in doing exactly that.
