News from the Carbon Market
Some interesting news this month from the SBTi Board, which indicated SBTi would potentially allow the usage of carbon credits to mitigate Scope 3 emissions. After some pushback, including that the Board had not followed the right process in adopting this change, SBTi has clarified that it has not committed to any specific approach going forward, and the market is left waiting for further updates on the matter. While it remains uncertain whether carbon credits will be allowed, it is encouraging to see an increasing recognition that carbon credits have an important role to play in the all-of-the-above strategy we need to decarbonize.
The US announced it will release guidelines for the use of carbon credits to build confidence in the markets, further confirming the carbon markets as a critical tool to combat climate change.?
The Integrity Council of the Voluntary Carbon Market announced the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs). While the CCPs framework and forthcoming label will help provide greater clarity around high-quality carbon credits, the methodology will take months to implement.?
