???China-Foreign Affairs??

???? China views that the United States and some European countries have been propagating the false narrative of China's "overcapacity" in the global new energy market. This accusation overlooks market demand and the industry's potential, contrary to economic laws and trade rules. According to experts like Zheng Yongnian and John Ross, this narrative is a modern iteration of the "China threat" theory, aimed at suppressing China's emerging industries and maintaining the U.S.'s position in the global trade hierarchy. Historical examples, such as the U.S.'s actions against Japan's industries in the past, illustrate this pattern of suppressing perceived threats to its industrial interests. Therefore, the "overcapacity" accusation is viewed as another form of economic coercion and bullying by the U.S., with the aim of maintaining its hegemony in global trade.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, called on the United States to cease spreading the false narrative of "overcapacity" and halt unfair practices targeting China's new energy sector.

Lin emphasized that the accusation of "China overcapacity" lacks economic logic, pointing out that all countries engage in international trade based on their comparative advantages.

Lin highlighted that if China is accused of overcapacity for exporting 12% of its electric vehicles (EVs), then countries like Germany, Japan, and the U.S.,

which export significantly higher percentages of automobiles, would face even more serious overcapacity allegations.

Lin cited International Energy Agency statistics indicating a growing global demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs), emphasizing that such demand far exceeds current capacity.

Lin criticized the U.S. for politicizing trade and attempting to hinder China's development, stressing the need for fair treatment and cooperation in achieving global green transition and development.
