? China's National Intellectual Property Administration announced its commitment to bolstering its intellectual property (IP) capabilities. In 2023, China made substantial progress in various IP domains, including patents, trademarks, geographical indications, and international cooperation.
Highlights include a 15.3 percent increase in authorized invention patents, approval of 4.4 million trademarks, and recognition of 13 geographical indication products.
China's count of top technology clusters reached 24 globally, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization. The industrialization rate of enterprise invention patents exceeded 50% for the first time, with patent trademark pledge financing and copyright pledge guarantee witnessing significant increases. Additionally, efforts to enhance IP protection included the establishment of national IP protection centres and resolving thousands of infringement cases. Furthermore, developing IP protection demonstration zones and rapid enforcement centres demonstrated promising results, with plans for further expansion.
China's IP regulator announced that over 1,700 universities and research institutions have compiled an inventory of 914,000 patents.
Among these, 636,000 are invention patents, comprising 60% of all effective invention patents held by these entities. Additionally, 676,000 patents have entered the conversion resource pool after evaluation, with 506,000 being invention patents. Notably, 30.4% of these patents are self-assessed with favourable prospects for conversion. The inventory work was initiated at the beginning of the year by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) in collaboration with relevant government departments.
