C’mon – Let’s Take Good Care of Ourselves
Back in 2003, Dr. Andrew Saul published a book called Doctor Yourself: Natural Healing That Works. He states that we do not need a team of doctors and prescriptions to create and maintain our health. He followed up in 2005 with Fire Your Doctor! How to Be Independently Healthy. Dr. Saul points out that if we maintain our own health naturally, we will not have so much need to visit a practitioner. I personally like this idea!
Dr. Joseph Mercola, in 2007, wrote Take Control of Your Health, a book which was written for people wanting to improve their health but being confused by all the conflicting nutritional information available. His book is research- and results-based. In other words, he is giving you what works!
Fast-forwarding to 2017, Dr. William Davis (a cardiologist) published Undoctored: Why Health Care Has Failed You and How You Can Become Smarter Than Your Doctor, echoing similar sentiments and implicating grains, especially, in contributing greatly to so many health problems Americans face.
What these authors (and many more reputable, credible individuals) have in common is saying that we can take care of our own health to a much greater extent by practicing excellent nutrition, mindfulness, exercise, and more.
Many of our health woes – mental/emotional and physical – have been induced or made worse by our poor eating habits, and the nutritionally derelict food that is offered here in America and around the world. “Fast” foods have come to mean unhealthy foods – we have sacrificed quality for quantity and have succumbed to the addictive nature of our food supply. Obesity and disease are running rampant, especially domestically.
