Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI?) is a process improvement framework developed and maintained by ISACA. CMMI is a proven set of global best practices that drives business performance through building and benchmarking key capabilities. It can be used to guide process improvement across a project, a division, or an entire organisation. CMMI is a framework for process improvement that provides organisations with essential elements of effective processes. It helps organisations to enhance their capabilities to develop and maintain quality products and services. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
The CMMI Institute has been evolving the CMMI model over the years. In 2018 they released CMMI v2.0 for Development, CMMI for Services and CMMI for Supplier Management. On 6 April 2023 ISACA released the latest version of the CMMI model - CMMI Ver 3.0. In addition to the CMMI V2.2 domains: Development, Services, Suppliers, Safety, and Security, ISACA has introduced new domains for Data, People and Virtual. The new model looks more promising and flexible with many potential benefits specifically for ERD / Tech / Product Development companies.
Following blocks show how new CMMI can help organizations in meeting varied business and stakeholder’s requirement:

There are many companies following CMMI since decades. It has helped companies in continuous process improvement and business growth. With adoption new Virtual, Safety and Security domains, it will help companies in better compliance and improve delivery. Considering the flexibility offered by the model, which requires 17 Practices Areas plus Domain Specific Areas (as shown in the diagram below) to be covered during the assessment as per the organizational needs, organization should make their existing QMS compliant with new domains namely Virtual, Safety & Security.
New domain addition will help in better management of:
??????? Threats & Vulnerabilities Handling, Physical Safety, Safety Controls, Safety Evaluations.
??????? Hazard Analysis, Functional Safety, Environmental Safety.
??????? Protocols, Product/Solutions Security/ Safety, Security Intelligence.
??????? Cyber Security, Virtual Work Strategy & Infrastructure.
It will also help in inclusion of following safety and security related standards & frameworks, which are referenced/ covered in CMMI 3.0:

Additionally, companies can also plan to add People domain, which will help in improving the HR related practices in the era to people-centric management.
CMMI offers a structured roadmap that enables organisations to progress from informal and unpredictable practices to re-defined and consistent processes. For Engineering companies, it offers a wide choice of process & domain selection. With the release of CMMI 3.0, more organizations from varied domain and industries will start adopting it. Another visible trend across the board is adoption of multi domain appraisal:

?Multi domain adoptions are certainly going to help the organization in the longer run as it includes varied processes and help companies in choosing domain as per business needs. The model is more flexible and suited to technology and ER&D companies involved in the business of product development, solutions and services. Its also evident from the available trends that there has been significant improvement in quality, delivery and productivity if model is implemented in true spirit and used in holistic way. Considering the better benefits, more options and flexibility, in future there would be greater adoption of CMMI V3.0 by all types of organizations.
